Kuritt leaned against the wall and crossed his arms over his chest as he watched the horde of baby firelizards. All had hatched and yet very few seemed, at the moment, interested in finding their person. He supposed the chaos hadn't helped. The musical green seemed to find hers amongst the newer candidates finally and one of the feisty bronzes when to another. He hadn't put much thought into trying to impress one of these things. Kuritsk was already a handful and he could hardly imagine owning a thing that actually liked the daylight now with his schedule.
The wherhandler cast the girl with the green flitt who had tried to break up the fight a glance as she addressed the people who corrected her for it's behavior. She was a candidate he had seen at the hatching right? Shards it was hard to remember anyone from the Weyr who weren't associated with Elba. He smiled slightly at the mention of not being able to bend her. He had the same issue with the eight foot thing outside. Still, it wasn't his place to say anything so the handler turned his attention back to the pile as the little gold reared her head. Ah, now there was a good prize for someone.
The brown wher grumbled in agreement from his place outside. He hadn't moved from his spot but was much quieter now that the blasted things had decided to stop trying to maul each other and find their people. He rested his big head on his front feet and blinked luminous large eyes as a few more people arrived to see what was going on. One could say he was somewhat disappointed that no one really seemed to noticed the monster sitting outside. Never mind, a dog noticed. He gave a big heave and snorted at the puppy. It wasn't even big enough to be a snack.
Kuritt picked his eyes away from the clutch to spot Rei managing to make her way here as well. He managed a light wave to her from his corner against the wall and tried to look like he was enjoying this much contact with people. More of the firelizards were untangling themselves from the pile. Two browns and a sickly looking green. His eyes narrowed on the poor thing as she valiantly struggled to find her person. Well, there was always a chance for a dud or sick one in a clutch this large. Still, he couldn't help but hope someone would take her.
Asta's only warning of her friend's arrival was the sudden cheep from both firelizards as she was grabbed and taken to the doorway. She crouched down beside Mouse and smiled, watching her puppy take in all the chaos that was going on around them. It was a wonder he didn't get squished!
"Charlie is so brave!" She grinned and glanced at the moving pile of firelizards. "You should go get one, Mouse. Then Charlie can have a friend!"
If Asta could have one, then she certainly wanted to make sure everyone else got a chance at the pretty little things. So far a green and a bronze had found their people. From what she could see from their spot, there were two more browns and was that a little green? Oh and there was a queen! She pointed to the little gold as it seemed curious about on of the girls who had arrived before them. Was that her girl?
Azariah kept herself back from the majority of the excitement. In the back of her mind, she could hear Yulth mumbling about closing their door so he could sleep. This would certainly make lessons much more interesting tomorrow if any of the weyrlings managed to snag one. Trying to care for a new pet, a growing dragon, and a lesson all in one day would be a challenge. Still, she didn't have the heart to remove herself from her spot in the hallway. It was a hatching, no matter what the creature, and admittedly enjoyed watching them.

Jovi smiled down at the little green. She had a lovely singing voice, and she wanted some food! Jovi grinned. "Looks like I have a new singing partner!"
He knelt down, and picked the beautiful green up. He took a little food from the bowl that Draym had brought, nodding a thank you to the fellow Candidate.
As he fed her, Jovi moved out of the way, more to the back of the room. He watched her, smiling still as she ate. Even her mind had an artistic flair. She was certainly perfect for Jovi!
"Such a sweet and talented little green. I think Ill name you Melody."

Spirex had heard there was a commotion, and as one of the Dragonhealers currently on duty, he made his way to the firelizard hatching not to Impress - no, he went there strictly professionally, to heal any of the injured beasties. He got to the Weyr room, and set up shop near the woman whose green had been injured.
"If you have any injured firelizards, make your way over here and I'll patch them up. If your firelizard has two head, I'll give it a check-up, make sure he or she is healthy. Other than that, I believe you know the drill - feed, wash, oil, bed." Spirex called out.
Then the young man turned to Amadahy. "If you'd like to come over here, then I can patch up your flitter, but she will have to go to the infirmary. She needs quiet rest in a somewhat sterilized environment, as it is her wings that have been injured, we have to make sure she can fly again." Spirex said. All of the usual happy, bubbly young candidate was gone - this guy was in work mode now. Then he looked at the little green and addressed her directly.
"Next time, little one, let them fight it out. Firelizard hatchlings are dangerous even if they are small. Just like Amadahy has been told not to interfere with a dragon hatchling, you shouldn't interfere with a baby. Let the mother deal with it - it's her job." Spirex said. Then he offered the pair a smile.
"Don't worry, it was a mistake, and this - " He gestured to the injured firelizard "Could have ended up a lot worse."
----
L'ost watched two browns peel themselves from the pile - one of them seemed to want others to leave the pile too...could firelizards turn cannibal when not fed? He'd read scrolls...
The tall young man sat on the floor his bowl in front of him. Come on little ones, someone....anyone in here is willing to feed you. The brownrider urged. He didn't notice the green slinking off, even if he had, he wouldn't have stopped her.

The gold sniffed at the meat, took a bite and chewed for a bit. Almost immediately after swallowing, however, she started doing that hacking thing that felines do when they have hairballs. Up the meat came all over Asosa's shoes. She turned sad eyes up to Asosa as if thinking, "Why would you project love for me and then try to kill me by feeding me something so icky?!" She turned from the greenrider and as she did so hiccuped a small bout of flame. If this poor little one were human she'd be crying her eyes out with embarrassment, but she is not and continued the search for the perfect person for her.~~~~~~~ "Oh Weyrwoman, the two bronzes were fighting pretty much right out of their shells. Arnmaer didn't stop them because I guess she didn't think it was bad enough to need stopping, and Emerald.. Well, you must know how excitable and overly dramatic greens are." She smiled fondly toward Winteth who had grown bored with the goings on and fallen asleep. Then the young weyrling looked at L'ost and smiled. "Thank you, L'ost. She did very well, she showed me flashes of the bronze she let catch her, I think he looks to one of the Lord Holders near here. At least he looks like one that belongs to one of the Lords." She hoped one of Arnmaer's babies would want this young man, and felt bad for him, he seemed so lost and alone. ~~~~~~~ This bronze fellow, like his bronze brother, was scratched up a bit from their tussle. It was simply just brothers having a fight to see who would be the dominant male and while he didn't like his bronze sibling (the dislike bordered on hatred) he wouldn't hurt any of his siblings for the world. But when that green got in the middle of things he went berserk. It was one thing for family or chosen ones to interfere with arguments, but something completely different for strangers to try and do so.
He'd had his left side facing away from the many two legged creatures, but when he saw that they were feeding his clutchmates he decided to investigate one of them. Oh dear, his beautiful golden sister got sick on that one... Nono, that one would not do for him either, now. Regardless of all that he had a nice slice over his left eye, he'd closed his eyelids and saved his eye, but it was just after the green joined the fray that it happened.
Ah! The two legger with wet on it's head. Yes, that's the one this little guy wants.Impressed to N'kan The first thing one notices about this fellow is the is all the darker colored areas on his body. The second thing one notices is the marking over his left eye, a mark that looks like an eye patch. This bronze is noble with a fiery temper. A courageous and upright personality is housed within this tiny body. Perhaps he should have been Hatched as a dragon rather than one of their smaller cousins. Regardless of his size the bronze knows his place is forever beside his chosen and will be loyal to his chosen and his chosen's family until his death. This bronze hates nothing save his bronze sibling. This is evident even from their hatching. Hex code for this little guy is C3943F. (Represents Xiahou Dun of the Dynasty Warriors games. Xiahou Dun lost his left eye to an arrow strike. According to one account (and popularized in the games) Dun pulled the arrow from his eye socket and ate his own eye. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xiahou_Dun)~~~~~~~ The brown wobbled his way over toward the two legger that his mother looked to and gazed up at her. Then his gaze switched to the woman standing near his mother's human. Oh! What lovely colored things on her head! He sniffed, well, she wasn't what he'd smelled, but maybe she could take him to some and let him taste it?Impressed to Lilian This brown is rather large around the middle, but contrary to what most people might first believe when they see him it really is pure muscle. Nothing less than fresh, raw meat will do for this little one. Oh, and he likes the alcohol, he can’t help it, it’s just the way he is. He’s got a very short temper and when not busy with something will end up getting into trouble with someone and his human will often have to talk the little guy out of the hot water he gets himself into. He also tends to sleep with his eyes open after having imbibed. When not in the company of his human this little guy spends a great deal of time with two of his brown brothers. This brown’s hex code is 482E1B. (Zhang Fei was the basis for this particular brown. Before becoming sworn brothers with Liu Bei and Guan Yu and fighting to unite China, Zhang Fei was a butcher. He also loved wine a bit too much and was murdered while sleeping it off one night. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zhang_Fei)

Asosa gasped quietly when the small queen rejected the meat. She quickly looked at the bowl. Either the queen was very picky about her food, or the kitchen workers had given her bad meat.
"I'm so sorry..." she said quietly, eyes darkened slightly with confusion and sudden sadness. She couldn't help comparing herself to the others. Amadahy had two flits already. A gold would've been wonderful.
Amadahy's attention was on the dragonhealer. "I understand," she said quietly. She handed Emerald to him, then whiped the tears from her face. Emerald made a soft crooning sound, and Amadahy felt the green flit's confusion. "He's going to help you," she told the flit. "I promise I'll not leave you alone there for long." Just then, Duststorm also launched himself from his human's shoulder. Unlike the green, the brown went to the shoulder of the dragonhealer. He wanted to be with his green cousin because their human couldn't. "Thank you Duststorm. Knowing you're by her side comforts me." She looked quickly at the dragonhealer. "Is that alloweable?" she asked quickly, her voice still thick from the tears.

" It could have gotten worse." Lilian said somberly as she watched Emerald being handed to the candidate dragon healer. She would have a word with him later for being on top of things. The weyr needed more people like him. Sighing lightly, it seemed things were settling down. She kept a careful eye on the girl with the green firelizard even though it felt like things were tumbling in on her. She was weyrwoman, and it hadn't been that long. Five turns. Only five turns. Would she be the leader that let New Shura crumble into nothingness? Things seemed to be taking a turn for the worse.
Just then, she felt the presence at the back of her mind, smooth like silk. Comforting, soothing. Calm now love. It's just a firelizard hatching. Hatchings are always known to be a little chaotic, doesn't mean you're doing poorly. Lilian grabbed the bond. She held onto it tightly. It feels like the world's closing in on me. I know. Just hang on. We'll get through this together. Oh...what's this? Gritorth felt it too, a tiny presence, nudging at their bond tentatively, hesitantly. A query, silent, hopeful...loving?
The weyrwoman looked down at her feet. A little brown firelizard was at her feet, looking up at her. He was a fat little thing, wasn't he? Kneeling down, she tried to shoo him away. " Go. Find yours, little one. Stop wasting time with me. You wouldn't want to go wild, now would you?" The little brown cheeped, looking a little confused. Gritorth laughed. He's chosen you love. Can't you feel it? Now that the gold mentioned it, she could feel it. The tiny presence, trying to find purchase amidst the great bond the girl and her gold shared.
" Yes." She said aloud, almost too soft to hear. " Come here then." She scooped the baby up in her hands, looking at him for a moment. She hadn't wanted one, but he didn't seem to be a fighter like those two bronzes. She'd have to keep an eye on them. " What should your name be?" She asked lightly. " What about Caspian. That's a strong name." The brown chirped lightly and rubbed against her finger.
Looking around, she noticed a girl with a bowl. She didn't want to bother anyone, but walked over anyway. " Hello?" The girl looked sad. Lilian didn't quite know how to deal with sad people, but she needed meat. Caspian crooned lovingly when he smelled the meat. Lili had to keep him from jumping down. " Do you think I could have some meat? This little beastie is going crazy." She noticed the girl's expression. " Are you okay?" Concern was in her voice.
" I know he is! But he might get hurt." She said a little seriously as she watched where the puppy disappeared to. She wanted to go get him and save him from the monsters, but she was afraid of them. He was such a little puppy. Her eyes widened when Asta spoke. " Why would I want one? What if they eat me?"
Her gaze darted back and forth between the room and Asta. " You have two." She said at last, noticing the firelizards on her shoulders. " They'll probably come to you before they come to me. Will you come with me?" She wasn't going to go face big scary monsters by herself.
Charlie, on the other hand, knew that the monsters weren't big, or scary. They were just babies, like him! Wandering away from where the green firelizard had crawled down the hall. Oh why had she done that? Charlie decided to go see. Padding into the hall, he caught up with the firelizard in short order. Stopping in front of it, he sat down and whined softly. Why are you in here? Are you okayyyy? He whined softly, barking to get some attention. Won't anyone help? With that, he laid down, putting his head over the little green and licking her, trying to clean her face of egg goo. Someone will help youuu. Charlie will help.

Spirex nodded, and took the green gently, examining her wings as carefully as possible. He breathed in sharply, assessing the damage. "Well, don't worry, I'll be able to patch her up well enough providing these wounds haven't already fallen prey to infection --" Spirex looked up at Amadahy in shock as the brown alighted on his shoulder.
"What, you aren't coming?" He asked, a slight frown on his face. "In all honesty, she'll have to be kept in for at least a sevenday, the leathery part of her wings needs to heal somewhat before I'll feel comfortable letting her go. You are allowed to visit, and I would rather you be there while I treat her."
Spirex then rolled a mat out on the floor which smelled of the infirmary. He laid Emerald on it gently, and sat cross legged next to her, opening the bag he had brought. He took out a cloth, some paste, and some padding.
"Amadahy, isn't it? Could you get Emerald to open her wings please? I know it's going to hurt her, but it's the only way I can patch her up on the spot. I need to be here in case of other injuries." Spirex asked, a frown of concentration on his face. "And I'll need you to stay calm, and keep your green calm. If she panics she'll only damage herself further."

Rei could tell this was really getting out of hand, she felt bad for the little one. It was always bad when little ones were fighting. It was good that a dragonhealer was around to keep things stable, at least from a health standpoint. Rei watched the little green, she looked quite sick actually..., wander out from her shell towards the door. She was such a small thing, but determined and Rei liked her spirit, to find her person no matter the challenge.
She couldn't have stopped the little thing, nor would she want to, but a tug to protect it was firm in her mind. Rei had better not interfere though, it was the other's choice. As more little lizards impressed, it seemed Lilian the Weyrwoman had impressed a brown from what Rei could see, she found the thrill of Impression in the air. There were so many eggs too, it was pretty exciting, but the lizards were all very picky. Not that it surprised Rei, whers and dragons were just as choosy.
She shifted her weight a bit, before centering herself again, arms crossed with the bowl still in her hand. It was restless, staying in one spot, but it would make things easier for the lizards at least. Well...that was what someone had told her. She'd never had one of these for her own, and Thaelen and a few others in Elba's Hold had seemed to enjoy their company. So...why not? At least it could keep Reisk from annoying her too much, haha. Probably not. The large wher might get jealous if anything. A little grumble in her mind made her chuckle under her breath. So he was a little, huh?
It seemed the Gold fire-lizard was just as picky as her clutchmates, and Rei grinned a little. That would make things interesting for sure. That little puppy with the two weyrbrats was pretty cute, trying to help the little Green. She smiled at that, her fingers twisting the fabric of the long sleeved shirt she had decided to wear today. The hatching was still up and going, and she couldn't let her attention stray for too long, focusing back on the eggs and the lizards.

[/i] to be something... Checking her speed, she entered the Barracks, dismayed to see so many tiny, bright creatures attached to people already. And then, through a break in the crowd, she saw several still unbonded, wandering about the bed. The...bed? That made her hide a grin. Whoever the mother belonged to had probably been less than excited about finding creeling, goopy babes prowling over her covers. More importantly though, she still had a chance. Without paying much attention to which ones were still wandering around, she managed to get a spot near enough to them and extend her hand. She had found dried fish wrapped in her pouch, and while she wasn't sure if the firelizards would care for it, she guessed it would get someone's attention. She'd seen the little things fishing offshore often enough in her crafter days, and some of them very young, to boot. Her impressions of the remaining babies were sketchy at best, and she had little opportunity to aim for any of them. There were so many people in here, some of them seemed to be arguing, and she could hardly see the bed itself, save for some snatches as people moved. She wasn't even confident her hand was close enough for the babes to reach, and shoved forward a little further. After all her delays, she wasn't going to let other people get in her way yet again today. At least her fish was on her side there; there was no way the little ones couldn't smell it.[/ul]

With Jovi busy with his new companion, Draym slipped a little closer. He had brought plenty of meat to share, so thought nothing of helping out Jovi when he Impressed. He smiled a little as he watched the hatchlings scramble around. This hatching was certainly interesting. There were so many mass hatchings that fire-lizard babies were piled up. He hoped none of them got hurt though. He wasn't too happy that the grown green had gotten hurt, but that Spirex guy was trying to help out with the injury. If Draym remembered right, the boy was a dragon healer. There were still plenty little ones to Impress. Draym's breath hitched a little when the gold hatchling almost choked. That would not have been good! As far as Draym knew, the little gold was the only other gold fire-lizard beside her mother. A Weyr could use a few gold little ones. So Draym waited, somewhat patiently. He really did want one of these little creatures. If only to feel the touch of Impression. Though he knew it wasn't as shocking as dragon Impression. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Kilkin let the other Healer handle the injury. Creatures weren't his forte anyway. He knew just the bare minimum of dragonhealing, and shredded wings were out of his range. Still, he did sympathize a little. The reaction that Amadahy had was a little over the top though. There really was no need to yell at everyone. Kilkin stayed back a little bit, still a little unsure if he really did want one of these little critters. They would be a lot of work, that was for sure. Did he really have time with Candidacy and the Infirmary? Well, he guessed if he Impressed, he would find out. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Taril smiled a little as people began to Impress the little ones. Yuth had really been the one to make her come. He wanted a mini-me. A little tiny blue. But that would be up to the fire-lizard, wouldn't it? Taril wasn't really sure. Taril had never really been at a fire-lizard hatching before. Which was probably why she was still petless. It really hadn't bothered Taril, she was usually a bit busy anyway. She would probably have to figure out some way to take care of a little friend if she did Impress. There would be a dry spell for Taril that was for sure, she would be taking care of the critter until he could be alone. And then she would probably almost rape someone.

Muir was entertaining herself with Onni, the Blue fire-lizard she had recently Impressed when Winteth's call rang in her head. Natalith was instantly alert, her eyes whirling an excited collection of color. You will go, will you not, Muir? Onnibun could use a friend. The Green squeaked cheerfully though the young flitter seemed less than pleased at the idea. He liked how things were situated. All the attention was received by him with no sharing involved. Why would he want that to change? Muir glanced down at her pet and smiled. "I guess he could use a friend for when we're busy." She laughed loudly when the male puffed up angrily and scuttled away from her. Onnibun does not like the idea? Natalith's excitement deflated a little as she watched the unhappy fire-lizard curl up on her rider's clothes chest. "Don't worry about it, Natalith. He doesn't know if he would like a companion." As she passed her green, she reached out to scratch an eye-ridge as a loving 'see you soon' before departing in the direction of Valdis's room. When the entrance to the girl's room came into view, Muir had to stop and wrap her head around the presence of a Brown wher and the fact that he was lurking outside Valdis's room. She could still not get over just how intimidating the nocturnal beasts were and-- Oh Faranth! Muir stared, dumbstruck, as she noticed the approach of the Weyr's very large Gold watch-wher. What really struck her as odd was the herdbeast the Queen carried in her mouth. Rather than wait for the handler's explanation as to why his beast was bringing a herdbeast to the Hatching, Muir ducked into the room and was greeted with a very chaotic scene, but weren't all Hatchings? Completely oblivious to a certain weyrling's thoughts, Thaelen was enjoying himself rather immensely. He'd opted to bring in very fresh meat for the little blighters instead of making a detour and going to the kitchens first. Thaelensk did not mind catching the prey for her rider and she perked right up when she saw Kuritsk was there. The Gold unceremoniously dumped the warm carcass beside the door and without one shred of the dignity expected of her, flopped onto the ground beside the Brown. Kuritsk's here for babies too? Bobble thinks he wants more flitterflatters. So many flitterflatters around and so much noise. Don't know what quiet voices are. Thaelensk grumbled unhappily as she watched the event from her resting place. While his wher enjoyed the company of her current mate, Thaelen was happily toting along a companion not many people had the privilege of seeing. His four turn old son, Aeleki, rested comfortable on his father's hip, a large smile plastered on his small face as he look this way and that at all the happenings. On the shoulder opposite of the child was perched Rama who was quite content to babble cheerfully to his human's offspring. "Papa! Look! Look at th' pretties! Lotsa pretties, papa!" Aeleki squealed happily, his hand pointing wildly at all the fire-lizards that seemed to be everywhere. Thaelen chuckled, enjoying his son's enthusiasm for the chaos. As he scanned the room, the handler caught sight of Rei and weaved his way through the crowd to stand next to her. ”’Ello, Rei. Say ‘Hi, Rei,’ Aeleki.” The black-haired brown-eyed boy beamed at the wherhandler. ”Hiiii, Reeeeeiiii!” Wasn’t this fun? So many things happening and he got to see it! While her siblings were busy untangling themselves, one Green was sitting on one of Valdis’s pillows and staring contentedly at everyone. Every once in a while, she would glance over at the squirming pile that was her clutch-mates and sigh. Was it really so hard to find a way out? She had done it so easily yet there they were, struggling to be free of each other. So slow. Her attention drifted back to the humanthings and the darkly intriguing place just beyond them. A hop here… a dive there… Yes, yes, that was it. The Green appeared to nod but if it was her newborn thoughts or something she had heard, no one knew. She stood and meandered towards the edge of the bed…But just as she was about to do whatever it was that she planned to do, a Blue managed to escape the proximity of his siblings but unfortunately could not stop himself from colliding with the smaller youngster. He was quick to regain his balance and even did his best to help the Green to her feet. A rapid-fire exchange of fire-lizard lingo left the Blue staring after his sister with amusement as she departed from his company. With a short leap, the Green landed on one of the onlookers and proceeded to scamper up his arm, leaving small pinpricks for him to remember her by. She did not remain with him long but catapulted herself at yet another innocent by-stander and this is how she went along her business for a few minutes, treating just about everyone like a stepping stone or momentary perch. She paused when she came across a delectable smell and a mind that seemed to suit her very well. Rather than move from the girl’s head to her shoulder, she leaned forward to look at Emery’s face with whirling rainbow eyes. Would her smart one feed her the smell-nice things?
While this green might not be the most beautiful or graceful of Pern’s green firelizards she is one of the smartest, if not the most intelligent of her color on the planet. She is a nocturnal creature and as such loves to gaze at the stars whenever possible. For some reason she is also somewhat obsessed with staring at maps for long hours. This green daughter of Arnmaer is a strategist of nearly unparalleled cunning and will help her human to accomplish whatever it is that he or she is trying to do. Her hex code is 0A2A06. (Yue Ying of Dynasty Warriors was the basis for this scholarly green firelizard. She is said to have been marred with red hair and dark skin, in other words she was ugly to her people. However she was extremely intelligent and ended up married to Zhuge Liang who was Liu Bei’s strategist in Shu’s attempt to unify China. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Huang_Yueying) Meanwhile, the Blue that had been left behind was not so inclined as to play a game of leap frog but he was also not as eager to wait for someone to come and feed him. He flapped his wings a few times, testing their dryness before taking to the air rather awkwardly. The baby nearly collided with several people who were forced to duck or have a fire-lizard cling to their faces. Unfortunately for one rider, she was not fast enough to avoid the poor flying skills of this one and the Blue was unable to swerve at the last moment so with a resound thud, Asosa’s vision suddenly went black as the fire-lizard tried desperately to hold onto the woman’s face. At the same time, he was squeaking apologies to his human. Someone! Help!
This blue is sarcastic, has a gracious demeanor, is frank, simple, kindhearted, has a good-natured manner, very friendly and is also genial. He is loyal to his friends and family and generous to all aside from enemies. He will always treat even the most common Pernese person with utmost respect and humanity and will be known for his integrity. The hex code for this blue is 6495ED. (Ling Tong of Dynasty Warriors was the inspiration for this blue. He served the Sun family for most of his life and his father was killed by the pirate Gan Ning. Ling Tong had a strong dislike for the pirate even after Gan Ning joined Wu's fight for control of China. In the latest installment of the Dynasty Warriors series of games Gan Ning and Ling Tong eventually do overcome their mutual dislike and distrust of one another and form a sort of friendship; although this is mostly due to the death of their mentor Lu Meng. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ling_Tong)

The writhing mess of firelizards came into her sight just long enough to reveal a Blue shooting out, and a following irritated burst of sound had to mean a collision with another youngling. Vainly Emery tried tip-toe, but her height meant she had no shot at peeking over anyone. She was about ready to try crawling between someone's legs and hoping they didn't take it the wrong way when a deeply green 'lizard darted quickly up a man's arm, onto a woman's shoulder, and landed squarely on Emery's own head.
Emery winced, expecting the quick little girl to push off with those sharp claws on her way to someone else, but there was a pause atop her skull. Moments later, that dark head peered over, whirling eyes swiftly changing to rainbows. Emery was astonished to feel the questioning of a mind in her own, so different from listening to dragons. This was much more intimate, not an eavesdropping but a direct conversation, though her new mind-mate didn't use any words.
Instead there were impressions of emotions, and strong ones. There was a sense of analytical curiosity, almost calculating, and suddenly, a surge of hunger and acceptance. Obediently, Emery lifted the fish up to her new friend, a part of her aware of how silly she must look but the rest of her not caring. The neat little Green took the offering in her front paws, munching politely, and occasionally producing an unintelligible firelizard comment, perhaps on the flavor, perhaps on something unrelated. Another few pieces of fish found her way into the Green's muzzle before the edge seemed to have been removed from her hunger.
"Come on down," Emery said softly, offering a palm for the little one to ride on. The Green tilted her head, apparently thinking this over, before accepting the general good sense of the suggestion and conceding. Soon enough, she was settled and content on Emery's shoulder, reflectively chewing a final piece of dried fish. More than anything, Em was shocked by the Green's mind. Everyone seemed to have an opinion on that particular color, and not all of them were complimentary: Greens were said to be flighty, foolish, not inclined to over-thinking. This one was precisely the opposite, as far as she could tell. She seemed thoughtful, cunning even, and certainly determined. Emery was unabashedly delighted with the lovely thing. If someone had mentioned she wasn't beautiful, the Candidate would have vehemently disagreed. She found that lovely deep color, lighter on her wings and subtly swirled with another shade of green, aesthetically pleasing, reminiscent of deep woods at the close of the day. Emery was smitten, that was a sure thing.
Extracting herself with some difficulty from the crowd of people and taking a place near the wall, she considered the firelizard, who seemed to be considering her right back. Both were pleased with what they found, but Emery was aware of the pressure of naming this creature who'd just come into her life. It occurred to her to simply call her Clever or Savvy, something that described her nature, but she wanted something more than a noun. Hmm. But maybe a noun would be appropriate?
"Keres. Do you like it? I think it fits, but it's your name, after all," she presented the name seriously. This Green had a mind that deserved to pass judgement on her own name. Thinking it over, she accepted it with a nod that surprised Emery. How had she picked up on that gesture so quickly? With pleasure, she realized she'd have a lifetime to be surprised by the Green.
[p.s. momo/whoever is responsible for keres, she is perfect! thanks much!]

A brown, bronze, blue, and green all found their people amongst the gathering crowd. With the Weyrwoman here and several more experienced people, Kuritt began to feel he really wasn’t needed to stand watch anymore. Some part of him was curious about the small hatchlings and that was probably the sole reason he still kept his back against the wall and tolerated all of this. At least he wouldn’t be the only handler coming back tonight with an interesting story.
His eyes darted to the little queen who had decided she didn’t like the meat by showing the girl in an odd display. She was off again to look for someone else. He chuckled softly to himself and glanced at the door in time to see the Whermaster arrive with his son. Was half the hold here? All he wanted to do was drop off some goods, get dinner, and head home. At this rate, he was never going to leave the wherhold again on the off chance he’d wind up in another one of these situations. That or he could leave Kuritsk behind. It was the wher’s fault afterall.
I will make you walk back. The brown growled from his comfortable spot outside.
His large nocturnal eyes followed his sense of smell to the direction of the giant golden queen and the herdbeast she carried with her. He moved over every slightly as she flopped down beside him and flicked a tongue in the direction of the barracks with the same air of annoyance. At least he had intelligent company now. Part of him wanted to rub this is Reisk face that she was sitting with him.
Tiny things are loud; send boy in to make them stop. Prefer the hold. Less of them and much quieter. Will eat the ones who come back home with us and dare to make peep.
Asta glanced at Mouse in surprise. No little firelizard would hurt the puppy. Most of her experience with them revolved around York. As feisty as he was, Asta couldn’t see the bronze even trying to take something six times his weight on. The only thing Charlie had to worry about was getting stepped on or maybe one of the big things outside deciding to make a meal out of him.
“Rhava and York would never eat anyone and those guys are way too little! See, they aren’t scary once they find their person.” Asta explain, stroking Rhava’s head as she pointed to the firelizards who had scrambled for their people. “Mama says I can’t have anymore but I’m sure we can make one come to you. Come on.”
Asta grabbed her hand and was about to move towards the inside of the room when she noticed that Charlie was looking at something else now. Oh! One of the little firelizards was wandering down the hall. She looked so sickly as well. “Look, Charlie found one of them. I wonder why she’s leaving?” Asta said, turning her attention to the escaping flit. “Should we take her to the healer?”

L'ost heard a loud retching noise, and turned in time to see the Gold throwing up over the one he thought she had Impressed to's shoes. Oh, okay, so she didn't like meat? As far as he was aware, that's all anyone had - unless someone had something else on them. Oh, that girl had a fish...maybe the gold would prefer that?
Then a green Impressed to her, and L'ost tilted his head. Dammit why were no...
SHARDS THAT'S A BIG WHER!
L'ost let out a small squeak at the sight of Thaelensk, and stepped backwards as if to try and run away, only to step on someone's toes. L'ost blushed bright red.
"Shard! S-sorry, it's just...that Wher's as big as a dragon!" Okay, so that was a slight exaggeration, but to L'osts eyes, she was. Heck Angeth would have trouble growing bigger than her! Well no, she wouldn't, but L'ost couldn't help but feel 2ft 3 next to the wher, instead of 6ft or so.
Pol's eyebrow quirked. So, that was Thaelen's wher, huh? Not as ugly as Pol had thought, but certainly not as graceful as she could be.

Rei was content with the waiting, everything was going so quickly nothing gave anyone chance to watch at least something. She was aware by a distinct huff in her head that Reisk was a bit miffed, but holding himself against doing anything. She had to wonder for a moment why that was until a high voice interrupted her thoughts, and a familiar presence was next to her.
Ello, Rei. Say ‘Hi, Rei,’ Aeleki. No one could mistake that voice. She smiled as she turned to Thaelen, hearing his son echo his father. Hiiii, Reeeeeiiii! The little boy's enthusiasm made her grin. "Hey Thaelen," she replied, before answering Aeleki soon after, "And hello to you too Aeleki." She'd seen the Whermaster's son a few times whenever they'd been in the Weyr, and the kid was adorable. He really took after his father at times.
With a glance back to the chaos, she mused, "There definitely isn't a lack of excitement in here, is there?" Definitely more exciting than the Hold had been in the past month or so, but that wasn't to say Rei didn't like the quiet. No, she appreciated it, but a little excitement every now and again was welcome. Her attention was then caught by one of the new Greens that had hatched, taking a flying leap from the bed onto someone standing near it.
The little Green seemed content in using everyone as her own personal bridge, feeling the little claws as she scampered across Rei as well. She didn't mind, but felt the little pricks against her shoulders. A bit of movement from the side, and she noticed one of the Weyrlings had seen Thaelensk, it almost made her laugh to see it. Poor boy, at least Reisk was off hunting for himself otherwise another huge wher would probably shock him more. Part of her was also glad her Bronze companion was off, or his jealousy might get the best of him again. He'd suck it up, but that didn't mean Rei wasn't about to hear of it.
