Terror came in the night- but for once, sweet once, the terror came not to Fort but instead to her hated southern enemy as the continent pulled their Weyr down around their ears.
Fort laughed too soon, though, even as she scrambled to respond to their pleas for aid. For that night would also unleash Fort’s own terror.
Accidentally.
What a bitter, bitter word.
While dragon’s keen their mournful song for the tragedies that befell two Weyrs in that long night, Fort’s newest, last, and only goldrider is left facing a hazy dawn with few answers and oh-so-many terrible questions
‘What now?’ isn’t one of them. She knows *exactly* what she’s going to do...
Get even.
The dark *is* rising again.... do you dare to face it?

We are Arisen Dark: Fort Weyr, a play-by-email canon early 8th Pass Fort Weyr, and here is our home page: arisendark.bugs3.com/Setting/
Our game is geared toward a slightly smaller but much more ‘adult’ audience than most other games. Our Fort Weyr is very much not a charming place. Yes, there is laughter and love and joy, the Weyr would be a very sad place if there wasn't. However, opposing them stands centuries of tradition, of oppression, of short-sightedness and arrogance. Homophobia is very much prevalent, though its been twisted in such a way that it will function in a Weyr, where homosexual relationships are unavoidable.
Color- ranking is strict and ever present. Gold and bronzeriders are the elite (The Establishment) and are always above all the others while browns serve as their steadfast and favored deputies. Blue and greenriders have learned and had it drilled into them that “Yes sir, of course sir!” is the only way to get through life with minimal incidents. Women have it much harder as they are considered only good for breeding or being drudges with the lucky few becoming goldriders. Only freak girls Impress green or, far worse for them, blue. It is well known that girls are only ever Searched for *gold* eggs, but in actuality that Search could be because the Searchrider saw a pretty face then their dragon seeing a good Candidate. And now...there are strangers in the Weyr as well. These Istan transfers, despite originating from another lax, hippy Weyr, represent a faction with their hearts firmly set on Restoring the Weyrs to the True Way. Unbeknown to everyone else, Ista was passing-the-parcel on their newest problem.
Open rebellion of ‘The Way Things Are’ ends in failure... People have tried and others have ‘disappeared’ in the night or been put on point during Threadfall. Only quiet, subtle disagreement is the way things have a hope of changing where they can live to see it. Especially now that a small bunch of fools has cost the Weyr its chance at moderation.
So, what’s happening now?
1.) Since the beginning of the previous goldrider, Nalire’s, term as Weyrwoman the Radicals have been planning and preparing (i.e breeding a much smaller and more lethal tunnlesnake) in order to strike out against The Establishment (or Them), although that small group held off on targeting people with their plan until just after the youngest’s gold’s clutch had hatched. After the youngest gold’s clutch hatched the Radicals began to infest the Weyr with their ‘snakes, which provided a convenient excuse as to why riders (their targets being the worst of the traditionalists) kept dying from tunnlesnake bites and venom. The ‘Night of Never-Ending Keening’, when the Southern Weyr fell, is when the Radical’s plan backfired in the most horrible way on not just them...but the whole Weyr.
2.) Southern Weyr was destroyed in a huge earthquake and the inhabitants have had to move to the North. Most have moved to Ista (including the Lilacape breeding program for smaller, tamer and more intelligent whers, flits, and their special white runners...those that they managed to save in the earthquake anyway), where that Weyr had room for them. Unfortunately for the Southerners...Ista didn't have room for all of them (nor did any of the other Weyrs) and *some* are having to move to the hated Fort Weyr. Fort didn't want to accept those liberals into their home, but they had no choice. So some Southerners are arriving at Fort.
3.) With the deaths of the current Weyrwoman and Weyrleader, as well as the young gold, there is a new Weyrwoman and Weyrleader. This Weyrwoman and Weyrleader are Istan riders who only arrived at Fort a very short 4 months before Southern Weyr falls and Fort’s ‘Night of Never-Ending Keening’ happens. These Istan transfers, when they arrived at Fort, were disgusted with the leniency with lessers that the current Weyrleadership had been promoting. *This* was not how Fort Weyr, the First Weyr, should be, this wasn't how both Devorah and Z’vin had were raised to believe. They would be the ones to return Fort to her former glory (not that either of them think there should be a ‘they’- they’ve their own private war to fight too)...and after that terrible night they gained the positions that would make that even more possible. However, it’s not just the Weyrwoman and Weyrleader who are from Ista, because not long after they arrived (even before gaining control of the Weyr) they were smoothing the way for more like-minded transfers out of Ista to Fort. Their allies, friends, ‘pet’ lessers, their favorite assistants, laundry workers, and seamstresses... people that they wanted with them at Fort soon began arriving. Strangers to people raised at Fort are now seen in the hallways.
4.) We have a weyrling clutch available for you to adopt a young dragon. Currently the weyrlings would be 4 and a half months old. In order to spread the new adoptable dragons through all possible players we are limiting each writer to 2 dragons from this clutch. Currently, the number of available dragons are listed here: 2 Bronze, 3 Browns, 8 Blues, and 13 Greens (total being 26 eggs), and there will only be 2 females on blues and 2 females on greens (although less than 2 blue and 2 green ridden by females would be what Fort and the new Weyrwoman prefers). Additionally, only 1 of the possible 4 females who impress will impress from the Stands, the others who impress will have to on the Hatching Sands (for whatever reason). A writer will only have at max from this clutch 1 female weyrling, to let other writers have a chance at having a female weyrling. But if you are considering making one of these, please ask the BoD what is still available.
