~Available Characters~FAQ[/center]
Dragons and Whers, protectors of Pern. The Dragons rule the day and the skies while the Whers rule the earth and the night. What happens when a middle-man comes into play? What happens when Wind Blossom continues her experiments on Whers, the not so accidental accident? With a short time between the hatching of the Whers and the volcanic eruption that forced the colonists of early pern to flee north Wind Blossom took advantage of that time. During that time period she created the monsters that Pern forgot, the Drers. Half Dragon, half Wher, Drers are strange and often ugly hybrids that fit in neither world. As a Dragon they are too aggressive, too independent, too challenging of the Dragons, but as a Wher they are too intelligent, too keen, too self-aware. As such they fit in no where, and during one fateful confrontation between the Senior Queen of Fort Weyr and the eldest Gold Drer their fate was sealed.
Exile.
In their entire history no Dragon, even another Queen, had challenged their senior with tooth and claw, and in their entire history no Dragon has ever been exiled; but blood was drawn 8 turns ago. Blood that should have never been spilled, never was spilled in the records of later Pern. By the second pass Drers were entirely forgotten, dead or bred out into Wher and Dragon lines, or were they? But this is the story of their beginnings, of their struggles to survive in a hostile and hateful world.
So they fled, rider and Drer alike, with family and friends following atop their backs or in ships or boats. Many died. Dragons turned against Drer and battles were fought, more blood was spilled as they were chased from those they once called brother and sister. Many died in threadfall during their struggle to find a haven to call home, and others still died between, from disease, or predators. Drers from all across Pern fled from the wrath of the Dragons, and they fled south. Not so far south as to resettle the Southern Continent, but east as well until a chain of islands were found, and within that chain a single island. From above it was green and blue, a haven, a refuge, and thus it came to be there home. A few exiles from days long passed had been found surviving, those with lesser crimes were welcomed and gathered among the rest.
Rider and those without Drer worked together to build a small village on the first beach they landed on, rightfully named "First Foot Beach". It was sheltered from the waves, the riptides, and the weather by rocks and cliffs, with a large meadow to the east in the center of the island. It was volcanic, or rather had been, and was now dormant, sleeping, and its rich earth was perfect for farming. For a while they survived on fish, but as their Drers grew it became apparent that fish would not do, and when the first clutch came raids on the North began for food and supplies.
Now it is 18 turns since landing, 8 since exile, and with the old queen gone, having abandoned the islanders and the rest of the Drers two young queens vie for dominance. Two queens with riders with very differing opinions on how they should proceed to protect the Drers.
But time is running short, candidates are few, and an invisible enemy is just waiting to rear its ugly head.
Tick Tock Exiles of Pern, the clock is moving.
